Social Security Disability

Most people don’t typically think about disability, but did you know that according to the Centers for Disease Control, one in four people has a disability? While some individuals are able to work with their disabilities, others are not. When a disability affects someone who hasn’t reached retirement age, the economic repercussions for that individual can be catastrophic. Between high medical costs and lost wages, individuals and their families can suffer.

That’s where social security disability benefits can help. Social Security features programs that provide benefits to people who cannot work because of a medical condition. This condition may be temporary, though must typically be expected to last more than a year, or the disability may be permanent. In some cases, even family members of the disabled party can qualify for benefits. Individuals can apply for partial disability, short-term disability, or a long-term/permanent disability.
